ACCURETIC (QUINAPRIL HCTZ)
Accuretic Information
Accuretic whose generic name is Hydrochlorothiazide and Quinapril
is a drug used to treat hypertension. Unlike ordinary drugs
prescribed for hypertension, which are only composed of either
Quinapril or Hydrochlorothiazide, Accuretic is a combination of
Quinapril and Hydrochlorothiazide. Quinapril is a drug belonging on
the category of drugs known as ACEs or

Accuretic Warnings
Never take Accuretic if you have known or unknown allergies to
sulfa-based medicines such as sulfa antibiotics since taking drugs
which contains hydrochlorothiazide may trigger this reaction.
Accuretic may also trigger the risk of serious and dangerous
allergic reactions. Always inform your doctor when you experience
symptoms of allergies such as swelling of lips, tongue and mouth,
hives, closing of throat and difficulty in breathing.
Accuretic may also not be advised for patients with cases of:
- Diabetes

erythematosus or scleroderma
- Pancreatitis
- Kidney Malfunctions
- Liver Problems
- Blood or Bone Marrow related diseases
- Salt restricted diet or intake of salt substitutes, potassium
supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics
- High levels of potassium in the body

Accuretic and Pregnancy
Accuretic belongs to the class of drugs within Pregnancy Category
D. Drugs belonging to this category may cause birth defects and even
death to the unborn. It is never recommended that Accuretic be taken
when one is pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Accuretic when
taken on the second trimester or on the third trimester of pregnancy
may cause injuries and even death to the unborn.
For breastfeeding mothers, take note that hydrochlorothiazide and
Quinapril can be passed to the breast milk and may cause harm to the
nursing baby. Consult your doctor before deciding to breastfeed when
taking Accuretic.
Accuretic and Old Patients
Accuretic should be prescribed at lower dose for patients who are
60 years old and above as side effects may be more readily felt if
Accuretic be prescribed at a higher dose.

Accuretic is not for children’s use.
Accuretic Intake Guidelines
Accuretic should be taken as exactly prescribed by your doctor.
Never deviate from your doctor’s instructions. If the instructions
are not that clear, you may verify them from a nurse or a

Each dose of Accuretic must be taken with a full glass of water.
Never abruptly cease your Accuretic Intake as abrupt cessation of

Accuretic Side Effects
Some serious side effects may be linked to Accuretic medication.
If you experience any of the following serious side effects, halt
your intake immediately and seek urgent medical attention.
The following side effects belonging to that category:
- Allergic reactions such as hives, swelling of lips, tongue and
mouth, closing of throat and difficulty in breathing
- Fainting
- Unusual weakening or fatigue
- Abnormal bleeding or bruising
- Jaundice or yellowing of the skin and eyes
- Confusion
- Symptoms of infection such as fever, chills and sore throat
- Decrease in the amount of urine or no urine at all
- Irregular heartbeats
- Increased swelling
Some less serious side effects include:
- Dizziness
- Lightheadedness
- Numbness of limbs
- Fatigue
- Muscle aches and cramps
- Increased hunger or thirst
- Changes in sense of taste
- Dry and irritating cough
- Excessive urination
- Anxiety or depression
- Rashes
- Profuse sweating
When these less serious side effects are felt, you may still
continue your Accuretic intake but you have to talk with your doctor
about these symptoms.
Accuretic Drug Reactions
Before taking Accuretic, you must inform your doctor if you are
taking any of the following drugs as they may have reactions with
Accuretic.
- Potassium supplements
- Salt substitutes

- NSAIDs
- Oral diabetes medications
- Tetracycline
- Lithium
- Calcium channel blockers

- reserpine, guanadrel or guanethidine
- nitrates
- pain relivers
- barbiturates
- steroids
Your dosage may be altered or you may be advised by your doctor
to cease Accuretic treatment if you are taking the above medicines
